The Royal Tourist in the Vanderbilt Cup Races (1904-1910)
In 1903 Edward Schurmer acquired control of the Hoffman Automobile and Manufacturing Company based in Cleveland, Ohio. He reorganized the company as the Royal Motor Car Company for the production of a new car called the Royal Tourist. As with many other automobile companies, Royal promoted their cars by entering the Vanderbilt Cup Races of 1904 , 1905 and 1910. (2 comments)

The Day the Garden City Lodge Moved- March 19, 1989

“Babe” Stapp: Driver of the Topping-Miller Special and Maserati V8Ri
Elbert "Babe" Stapp (1904-1980) was an American driver active in racing from 1923 to 1940. He drove in 12 Indy 500s and both the 1936 and 1937 Vanderbilt Cup Races. Babe Stapp was inducted in the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 1994. (5 comments)

This one-minute film highlights Bernd Rosemeyer's victory at the 1937 Vanderbilt Cup Race at Roosevelt Raceway in Westbury, New York. Rosemeyer drove an Auto Union Type C averaging 82.564 MPH over the 300-mile race. (1 comments)

Then & Now: “The Most Difficult Turn” on the 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Course
John M: "My family has a legend connected to the Cup races. My Grandmother's family at one time lived in the house on the triangle at Mineola Avenue and Old Northern Boulevard. One year the race went by the house and they supposedly did a good business selling sandwiches and allowing parking for a very high price to race goers out from the city." (1 comments)
