    The Packard Gray Wolf- One of America’s First Lightweight Racers

    One of the five American entries in the 1904 Vanderbilt Cup Race was the 30-HP lightweight dirt-track Packard Gray Wolf. Driven by its designer Charles Schmidt, the first Packard racer had previously set one-mile and five-mile records in January 1904. (1 comments)

    Then & Now: The Vanderbilt Cup Race Grandstands & Press Boxes in Westbury

    The grandstands and press/officials' box for the 1904 and 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Races were placed at the same Westbury location on Jericho Turnpike, just west of the Powells Lane intersection. The grandstand was on the south side of Jericho Turnpike and the press/officials' box was on the north side, on property leased from the Hitchcock family. (2 comments)

    VanderbiltCupRaces.com set a new monthly record in March for both unique daily visitors (6,515) and total views (28,503). The daily unique visitor average of 210 broke the 200 level for the first time and represented a 51% increase over March 2010.     VanderbiltCupRaces.com Exclusive:  Images of The Last Brentwood Lodge & the Commack Spur Road

    The final road construction on the Motor Parkway was the completion of the 1.55-mile Commack Spur" connecting Jericho Turnpike to the Parkway in September 1928. Located just 1/5 mile east of Commack Road, it was hoped that the spur would further increase traffic on the Parkway. The Spur was promoted in a new Motor Parkway brochure and map with an arrow pointed to the new entrance with a note to "Turn Left at Red Disc". (1 comments)
