Suffolk County Airmap 1930 Aerial Survey #1: Ronkonkoma

In 1928 Suffolk County commissioned an aerial photography company to create a comprehensive record of their roads, terrain and properties. Two years later, the Airmap company photographed the entire county including our favorite historic road; the Long Island Motor Parkway. Newly Discovered Photos of Motor Parkway Bridges and Willie K’s Guest Lodge in Lake Success

In the never-ending treasure hunt for new images of the Vanderbilt Cup Races and the Long Island Motor Parkway, I found some gems from the collection of New York State Parks Bureau of Historic Sites. The first images from this collection provide insight into Willie K's former Deepdale guest lodge and the Lake Success Motor Parkway bridges over Marcus Avenue and Northern State Parkway. In Search of Alcos: #6 1912 Alco Touring Car at Fondation Berliet, Lyon France

Over the last 25 years, it has been widely written that there are only 12 original, rebuilt and restored Alcos that exist in museums and private collections. As requested by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, I have been attempting to track down the Alco "12". As noted by Phil last week, Alco #6 can be found at Fondation Berliet in Lyon, France. Film: Thomas Edison’s “Automobile Parade” in New York City Held on November 4, 1899

Among the paper print films discovered in the basement of the Library of Congress in the 1930s was this 2-minute film of an automobile parade held in New York City in 1899. A copyright for the film was filed using a paper print by Thomas A. Edison, Inc. on February 6, 1900. (3 comments)

In Search of Alcos: #5 1912 Alco 7-Passenger Touring Car at the Nethercutt Collection

Over the last 25 years, it has been widely accepted that there are only twelve original, rebuilt and restored Alcos that exist. As requested by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, I am trying to track down the Alco "12". As noted last week by Peter Becker, the fifth Alco can be found in the Nethercutt Collection in San Sylmar, California. (3 comments)
