The 1911 Breese Racer
Sunday's post featured a film of the 1946 "Race of Racers" where Old 16 driven by Joe Tracy just beat out the 1911 "Breese of Paris" Racer driven by Bobby Breese. Walter McCarthy has provided this photo of Bobby Breese and his car. (6 comments)

Film “The Last Race for Old 16 and Joe Tracy?” (1946)
In June 1946, the Veteran Motor Car Club of America sponsored its 50th Anniversary Jubilee featuring a parade of 75 vintage cars and nine races at the Mineola Fair Grounds on Long Island. Courtesy of Walter McCarthy and the Long Island Old Car Club, the highlights of the Jubilee have been captured in this 4-minute film. (6 comments)

Hear and See the 1906 Broadway Musical “The Vanderbilt Cup”

Then & Now: The Massapequa Lodge
Continuing our "Then and Now" series, this photo captured Old 16, the eventual winner of the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race, climbing the Long Island Motor Prarkway bridge over Massapequa-Hicksville Road. To the right is the Massapqua Lodge, one of the three John Russell Pope-designed toll lodges opened in 1908. (0 comments)

Then & Now: The Hairpin Turn in Old Westbury
One of the most exciting vantage points for the 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Race was the Hairpin Turn at Wheatley Road and Old Westbury Road. Over 3,000 spectators crowded this Old Westbury turn named because its contour was reminiscent of the bend of a hairpin. (1 comments)
