    Starting Lineup- The 8 “N” Cars of the 1908 Nassau Sweepstakes

    On September 10, 1908, the AAA Race Commission announced plans to christen the Motor Parkway with an event called, “The Long Island Motor Parkway Sweepstakes.” Five concurrent stock car races were scheduled for October 10, 1908. The idea was to create an opportunity to test the new course, timing systems, and crowd control for the Vanderbilt Cup Race scheduled two weeks later. (2 comments)

    Cradle of Aviation to Host Vanderbilt Race Centennial Exhibit in October

    In celebration of the 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race, the Cradle of Aviation Museum will host an exhibit featuring rare vintage cars, special memorabilia and artwork from the four major races that ran on the Long Island Motor Parkway from 1908 to 1910. (5 comments)

    The Alco Practicing for the 1911 Indy 500: The License Plate & Mystery Car

    Prior to the 1911 Indy 500 Race, the #18 Alco conducted practice runs on the Long Island Motor Parkway. On these runs, a New York license plate M1067 was placed on the front of the car. (Post corrected on November 10, 2011- Original post indicated the Alco was practicing for the 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race). (1 comments)
