Profile: Lewis Strang- Driver of the 1908 Renault Racer

Lewis Strang’s life is an old-fashioned story of earning the American dream. Educated in private schools, he was a direct descendent of Revolutionary War General Israel Putnam, best known for urging his troops at Bunker Hill, “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes!” (0 comments)

“Clean Up the Old Bethpage Motor Parkway Bridge Day” a Big Success & Bridge History

Thirty-three men and women of the Long Island Motor Parkway Preservation Society and the Model A Ford Club of Long Island experienced an exhilarating day restoring the Motor Parkway and the bridge in Old Bethpage Village Restoration. The Old Bethpage Motor Parkway Bridge is one of only two LIMP bridges still standing in Nassau County and was recently desecrated with graffiti and debris . Here are highlights of "Clean Up Day", a slideshow and a history of the bridge: (10 comments)

The 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Race Tickets Purchased by the Owner of the #7 Mercedes Entry

Just ten days before the 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Race, pharmaceutical magnate George McKesson Brown of Huntington purchased the #7 Mercedes to compete in the race. CSI Challenge: Identifying A Vanderbilt Cup Race Photo of the #18 Mercedes in 1908

One of my favorite vendors at the Hershey Meet is Paul Osika and his collection of vintage automobile race photos. Paul asked for assistance to identify the year, car and location of this photo taken during an unknown Vanderbilt Cup Race. Time to bring out the VanderbiltCupRaces.com CSI (Cup Scene Investigation) Team. (0 comments)

Exclusive Video “World’s Oldest Running Car Sold for A Record $4.62 Million”

Some of the most exciting events of Hershey Week were the RM Auctions at Hershey Lodge on October 6-7, 2011. The highlight was the sale of the 1884 De Dion Bouton Trepardoux Dos-A-Dos Steam Runabout, considered the world's oldest running car. Here are my photos of the car as it was displayed in ballroom lobby and a 6-minute video showing its sale for an amazing $4.62 million, over twice the low estimate. (1 comments)
