My mistake, Granddad drove the Number 7 in the 1906 race, not in the 1908 race (Number 5).  I will let others guess the rest.

That’s the 120 HP Mercedes Rennwagen racer being driven by William Luttgen with Marx as his mechanician. It raced in the 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Race on October 6, 1906 and finished in 11th. place.
