That’s George Washington Vanderbilt II. He was Willie K.‘s uncle (George and Willie K.‘s father were brothers). I think the car is a 1909 Packard Model 30. George is famous for being a partial designer and the owner of the Biltmore Estate near Asheville, NC.

In 1907, George Vanderbilt ordered a Stoddard-Dayton car delivered to his home in Washington, D.C.
George was a brother of William K. Vanderbilt
The estate is known as the ‘Biltmore Estate in Ashville, North Carolina. Today it
is a Historic House Museum and Tourist Attraction.
George Vanderbilt, cousin of Willie K.
His estate, Biltmore, is in Asheville, NC and was damaged during Hurricane Helene. I visited there in May, 2023. Definitely worth the visit. George was instrumental in the good roads movement and helped define road building in the country.
Although “Biltmore” was and still is the largest private home in the US, Otto Kahn’s “Oheka” Castle was second at the time, and I think third largest now. AND, it’s right here just over the Nassau/Suffolk line on Jericho Tpke; the golf course on what was part of the expanse is the Cold Spring Harbor Country Club. Before moving to Boca Raton in ‘04, we lived in the “Gates” in Woodbury, Nassau County, which is just across the line (Avery Rd) as well. Although the Oheka Castle fell into bad times, it has been restored and now is an elegant hotel and catering hall for weddings, Bat & Bar Mitzvahs, etc (we’ve been to a wedding there). The fact is that Otto Kahn, being one of the “Our Crowd” “Gilded Age” Jews, was barred from gentile golf courses and country clubs. So, he built his own.
