Wikipedia;
The Ford Cougar 406 is a concept car for the Ford Thunderbird built by Dean Jeffries for Ford. The Cougar featured Mercedes 300 SL-type gullwing doors, and was originally painted in Candy Apple Red. The car was unveiled at the 1962 Chicago Auto Show. The original was a 3/8-scale model from 1956. This was the second car to be under the Cougar nameplate. The car has 405 horsepower. On the car there was swing-up headlights on the front fenders.
In 1963, the Cougar was used in Frederick Brisson's film version of his Broadway comedy hit "Under the Yum Yum Tree"
After the 1962 New York Auto Show, a feature in Hot rod magazine, and another few rounds in shows, the car was sent to George Barris in Hollywood, where the car was painted candy-apple red and it appeared in a 1963 film starring Jack Lemmon called "Under the Yum Yum Tree".

That’s the 1962 Ford Cougar 406 concept car. Some say it was a potential prototype for a redesigned Thunderbird; others claim it was a possible design for the yet to be named Mustang. Rumor has it that the car might still exist. See attached info that I downloaded from http://www.kustomrama.com.

Private Collector
1962 Ford Cougar 406 Concept Car for the Ford T-Bird. Engine was 406 CI thus named the 406. Believed to still exist unrestored with a private collector in the Detroit area. Originally painted in Candy Apple Red.
Upon research I found originally the Cougar was painted Blue as shown in the color photos. It was later painted Candy Apple Red by George Barris for the Movie Under the Yum Yum Tree.
I found this picture and article of the unrestored 1962 Ford Cougar 406 and it looks like it needs a lot of restoring.
