A Tour of Long Island Motor Parkway Sites
Earlier in the month, Long Island transplants Richard Salamon and Frank Teracino took a tour of Long Island Motor Parkway sites of their former home of Long Island.
Richard, now living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Frank, now a resident in Connecticut are lifelong friends who grew up on Long island. They shared stories of being on the old Parkway during their youth while speaking with them at the Greenwich Concours d'Elegance at the beginning of the month.
They mentioned that they were going to the Island the next day to tour various sites along the Parkway, so I suggested a nice grouping of Nassau County sites that were easily accessible.
Some of the places I suggested were the Old Courthouse Bridge, Vanderbilt Court to see the Parkway Manager's house, the old Curtiss plant, the Garden City Lodge, Mineola Lodge, various bridge embankments and to go for a quick drive on one of the remaining sections that is the entrance for the Williston Park Pool.
Here are a few photos of their tour.

Amazingly, after nine years, the marker the Long Island Motor Parkway Preservation Society placed on the land marked bridge in 2016 still stands!
The Amazing Clean-Up of the Old Courthouse Road Motor Parkway Bridge
For their first time, the two friends ventured out on to the land marked structure.
After many years, Mother Nature has been slowly reclaiming the bridge.
Maybe it's time for another Preservation Society clean up of this important landmark.
Another spot on their bucket list tour was the currently unoccupied Garden City Lodge.
The lodge, moved to its current location in March of 1989, previously housed the Garden City Chamber of Commerce but has vacated the building recently. Hopefully another entity can move in to the historic structure and put it back into good use.

So glad Frank and Richard were able to tour the Parkway. I always feel the pull (maybe from Willie K.) to get out there and do the same when visiting Long Island!
Love this post! On the verge of asking my son Gram if he would like to re explore the sites that initially spattered his interest in the Motor Parkway back when he was a 6 year old young boy.
