Starting Lineup: The 6 Cars of the 1910 Massapequa Sweepstakes
During the 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race, two other sweepstakes races were run simultaneously for commercially available stock cars. The Massapequa Sweepstakes had six entrants for the smallest stock cars who competed for 10 laps over 126.4 miles. Then & Now: Central Park (Bethpage)
It was a great turnout last night at the Bethpage Public Library. A total of 73 people attended the presentation "The Motor Parkway, Vanderbilt Cup Races and Central Park" hosted by the library and the Central Park Historical Association. Here are five "Then & Now" images from the presentation.

Help Solve the Motor Parkway Mysteries of Central Park

One of the most elusive pieces of Vanderbilia are the special radiator plates to signify entrants practicing for the 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race and the associated Sweepstakes races. Art Kleiner’s Exploration #1: The Motor Parkway near Colonial Springs Road in Wheatley Heights

From the Hank Wieand Bowman Collection: Vanderbilt Cup Races (1915-1937)
Hank Wieand Bowman was considered the premier author of boating articles in the 1950s. Bowman also wrote several books on automobiles including; "Sports Cars in Competition" and "Famous Old Cars". Then & Now: The “Meadowbrook” Motor Parkway Bridge in East Meadow
One of the first bridges built by the Long Island Motor Parkway was captured in a 1939 aerial view in last Sunday's post. Here's a Then & Now of the curved "Meadowbrook Bridge" in East Meadow built for the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race:
