The Proposed 1916 National Military Highway on Long Island
Established by Charles Henry Davis in 1912, the leading advocate for the development of national highways and "good roads everywhere" was the National Highways Association. With war raging in Europe, in 1916 the National Highway Association of Long Island proposed this 90-mile national military highway from Jamaica, Queens to Montauk. (1 comments)

The Day the Long Island Motor Parkway in Nassau County Actually Closed
Reflecting the impact of the Depression and the ever expanding Northern and Southern State Parkways, the Motor Parkway officially closed on Easter Sunday, April 17, 1938. However, Mitch Kahn found this cover article in the July 2, 1938 issue of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle indicating the Nassau County section of the Motor Parkway remained open for another two and half months. Was Theda Bara’s Film Debut Shot in Petit Trianon in Lake Ronkonkoma?
Silent film star and stage actress Theda Bara (1885-1955) made her film debut at the age of 29 in The Stain in 1914 as an extra. The film was shot in New Jersey and at Petit Trianon, located at the eastern terminus of the Motor Parkway in Lake Ronkonkoma. (4 comments)
