A prolific member of the Hudson River School of painting, Eric Sloane (1905-1985) was an artistic genius. Among his nearly 15,000 paintings was this 1933 sketch of Roosevelt Field including "Ye Motor Parkway". (5 comments)

From the NYC Municipal Archives: Images from the Motor Parkway and the 1937 Vanderbilt Cup Race

Aerial Views of Roosevelt Raceway After 1937
After the 1937 Vanderbilt Cup Race, no major road race was held at Roosevelt Raceway. But, as documented by these aerials, the track was soon used in for midget racing and then harness horse racing. (3 comments)

Driver Profile:Tazio Nuvolari-“The greatest driver of the past, the present, and the future”
Tazio Giorgio Nuvolari was and Italian motorcycle and race car driver known as "Il Mantovanao Volante (The Flying Mantuan). Dr. Ferdinand Porsche called Nuvolari "the greatest driver of the past, the present, and the future". He was the winner of the 1936 Vanderbilt Cup Race in a Scuderia Ferrari Alfa Romeo 12C-36. Cradle of Aviation Archives: Amazing 1937 Aerials of Roosevelt Raceway
In April 2010, the Cradle of Aviation Museum received a gift of the photographic archives of a man long-associated with Long Island aviation. Among the hundreds of photos in the collection was one box of 265 negatives and glass plates related to Long Island automobile racing. The images were taken by photographer John Drennan of Mineola from 1935 to 1965. These photos are available through VanderbiltCupRaces.com with permission of the Cradle of Aviation. From the Hank Wieand Bowman Collection: Vanderbilt Cup Races (1915-1937)
Hank Wieand Bowman was considered the premier author of boating articles in the 1950s. Bowman also wrote several books on automobiles including; "Sports Cars in Competition" and "Famous Old Cars". In developing his research, he accumulated a large collection of automobile and boating photos.
