    Driver Profile: George Arents Jr.

    George Arents Jr. (1875 – 1960) made a fortune on patents for cigar- and cigarette-rolling machines and developed a lifelong passion for fast cars and collecting rare tobacco books and manuscripts. His hobby evolved into an extraordinary collection of rare books and manuscripts housed at The New York Public Library. Unfortunately, his only racing experience in the first Vanderbilt Cup Race ended in tragedy. During the second lap hiss Mercedes overturned fatally injuring his mechanician.… (1 comments)
