What is RSS?

RSS allows for automatic delivery of new blog posts directly to you. All you need is a (free) RSS feed reader and then you can subscribe to your favorite blogs or forums. When you open your feed reader you will see a list of all the most recent entries on your favorite blogs.

How Do I Use RSS?

First you need an RSS feed "reader" or "aggregator". These can be online feed readers, like Bloglines or Google Reader or applications on your desktop, like FeedDemon for Windows or NetNewsWire for Mac. Most of these applications are free.

Second, you need to "subscribe" to your favorite blogs. Usually this is as easy as clicking on an icon that looks something like this: rss icon and clicking on a "subscribe" button in your news reader.

And that's it!

RSS in Plain English

The people over at Commoncraft.com believe in the use and ease of RSS so much that they created this video to teach people how to use RSS in less than 4 minutes.

Frank Lee was standing to the far right wearing an Alco sweater and mechanic Herbert Carl Ferber, the grandfather of Lee Ferbin, was on the far left.
