Willie K’s Sister Consuelo Vanderbilt: The Duchess of Marlborough

William K. Vanderbilt Jr.’s sister Consuelo, the Duchess of Marlborough (center wearing a white blouse) was among the 5,000 spectators gathered at the Mineola grandstand for the 1905 Vanderbilt Cup Race. After the end of the Vanderbilt Cup Races on Long Island in 1910, Centerport on the North Shore of Long Island was an ideal location for William K. Vanderbilt, Jr. to build a new estate. Northport Harbor enabled Willie K. to pursue his love of yachting and, later, flying.
