A Busy Day for the Black Beast and the Alco-6 Team

It was a fun and exhausting day for the "Black Beast" Team today with ten hours of VanderbiltCup Race activities stating at 5:45 AM.

The day started early with PIX Morning News television remotes promoting this Sunday's Great Neck Plaza Autofest/Street Festival. From left to right;Jay Corn, Autofest committee chairperson, Howard Kroplick, WPIX reporter Larry Hoff and a PR manager from Zimmerman/Edelman get ready to go "live". Details on the Autofest were also featured in today's front-page of the Great Neck Record.

After two hours of remotes, we headed to East Norwich for the Long Island Library Resources Council 14th Annual Archives Month Conference. Here, I presented the Vanderbilt Cup Races/Long Island Motor Parkway section of "Racing on Long Island: Horses to Horsepower" and did several laps with the "Black Beast" on the oval entrance to the beautiful former George Brewster family mansion for over 100 attendees.

The final stop of the day was the Institute for Learning in Retirement at Farmingdale State College. for a presentation "Willie K. and the Motor Parkway". Over 60 people attended this presentation and stayed to watch the "Black Beast" do two laps in the adjacent parking lot.

It was fun day for all...especially for me!!

From Walter C:

Howard, I have never seen our members so excited about any program we have brought to the campus!  They were absolutely enthused and engrossed.  They are an interested and curious group to begin with, but their response to you was beyond my experience with them!  Surely it was the fascination with the Long Island history that appealed to them; and the thrill of your beautiful car; but more than that it was your endless enthusiasm and personable attention to your topic and to them that really made the day.  I received many comments that afternoon acknowledging your appealing presentation that made the afternoon so exciting.  Bravo!!
