Film: The Great Savannah Races (1908-1911)

From 1908 to 1911, four major automobile races were held in Savannah, Georgia. Photos of the Savannah course and the four races are shown in this five-minute film. Some of the rare photos in this film are courtesy of Kim Iocovozzi from Savannah.

The four Savannah races featured in the film are:

-Grand Prize Race of the Automobile Club of America (November 26, 1908)- Won by Louis Wagner in a FIAT

-American Grand Prize (November 12, 1910)- Won by David Bruce-Brown in a Benz

-Vanderbilt Cup Race (November 27, 1911)- Won by Ralph Mulford in a Lozier

-American Grand Prize (November 30,1911)- Won by David Bruce-Brown in a FIAT

Good to see someone has added this information. All I know comes from the book “The Great Savannah races of 1908, 1810, 1911,” apparently published privately by Julian K. Quattlebaum, M.D. (Senior—His son, same name and profession [who removed my appendix], raced sports cars on the Savannah-Effingham Motorway (later Savannah International Raceway and now Roebling Road) when we lived there in the 1960s and were active in the Savannah Region, Sports Car Club of America (now Buccaneer Region).

I have some photo postcards from these races that are different from those in the video. Perhaps I could share the images so they could be combined with these. Mine are mostly the race car drivers and include car 48.
