Sayville Presentation “The Long Island Motor Parkway” on February 15, 2009


The Sayville Historical Society will be sponsoring a Motor Parkway presentation on Sunday, February 15th from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. I will be presentating my favorite images from our book The Long Island Motor Parkway and show memorabilia from the Vanderbilt Cup Races and the Motor Parkway.


The presentation will be held at the Sayville Historical Society located on Edwards Street in Sayville and is free and open to the public. Directions to the Sayville Historical Society are as follows:

From the east:

Take Sunrise Hwy (RT 27) to Lakeland Av. south (exit 49) for 2 miles. After crossing the railroad tracks, you will come to the next light which is Montauk Hwy (27 A), at this point the road in called Railroad Ave. Continue on the same road (now called Gillette Avenue) until it ends at Edwards St. Make a left, the Society, surrounded by a fence, is on the left. Parking is on the street.


From the west:

Take the Southern State Parkway to Sunrise Hwy Exit 44 East. Merge onto Sunrise Highway continue to Lakeland Avenue. (Exit 49) follow the above directions.


From the Long Island Expressway:

Take exit 59 South, stay on Lakeland Avenue follow the above directions.
