 Second “Clean Up the Old Bethpage Motor Parkway Bridge Day"  Due to the poor weather forecast, the Clean-Up Day has been postponed until next weekend. The date and time will be coordinated with the Old Bethpage Village Restoration. Details will follow.

Rain date quickly approaching for historic fun.

The First Annual Motor Parkway Parade to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the completion of the Lake Ronkonkoma section will be Sunday, October 30.

This event, run by the Lake Ronkonkoma Heritage Association, will feature the 1909 Alco-6 Black Beast Racer. The car will lead the vehicles, since it won the Vanderbilt Cup in 1909 and 1910. It will be followed by many local vintage vehicles from private collectors and from the Ronkonkoma Fire Department for an uninterrupted drive from Dix Hills to Lake Ronkonkoma.

The heritage association is looking for as many spectators to attend as possible.

Vintage Vehicles, 1948 and older, will parade from Deer Park Road and Motor Parkway in Dix Hills starting at 9 a.m. to Waldbaum’s Shopping Center on Portion Road in Lake Ronkonkoma

 Speedtv.com,  Speed Q&A October 15, 2011: Bob Varsha, the Voice of Formula One on SPEED, talks about the new F1 race coming to New Jersey:

 Varsha: Formula One is predicated on taking the world’s most popular form of motor sports to the world’s greatest cities. I think a glaring omission in recent years – and really throughout the history of Formula One – has been New York City. So, I think this is huge. It’s the center of the world’s financial markets, it’s the center of the world’s media markets and it’s the center of the world’s entertainment markets. If there’s anything that’s bigger than Formula One – it’s New York. It’s just a natural they would go together. Having said that, it’s ironic that there really hasn’t been a race track incorporated in New York, a place where everything imaginable can be seen or done. The Meadowlands (New Jersey) was a compromise. There were some permanent tracks out on Long Island (New York) and events like the Vanderbilt Cup. New York does really loom large in the history of motor sports, so it’s only right that it should have a Formula One race. It’s going to take a significant effort, but I’m just delighted to see that it’s happening.
