The Long Island Motor Parkway Bridge Over Little Neck Parkway in Queens

Here is a rare photo of the Long Island Motor Parkway Bridge over Little Neck Parkway courtesy of the Queens Borough President's Collection. Looking north, this 1928 photo was taken in rural Queens.

When the bridge was built in 1912, New York City required the Motor Parkway to use railroad-type trestle construction over the public roads.

Wonderful! That photo is a year older than I am. Makes me feel a bit younger!

Hi Huntley and Ken:

The right-of-way of the Motor Parkway (west of Little Neck Parkway) is in parking lot of the Queens County Farm Museum The LIMP right-of-way on the east side of Little Neck Parkway is 74th Avenue. There are no remaining traces of the Motor Parkway from Winchester Boulevard to Little Neck Parkway.

Here is a Google Map link:;=&q=74th+Avenue+and+Little+Neck+Parkway&sll=40.748411,-73.71897&sspn=0.007055,0.010986&ie=UTF8&ll=40.748411,-73.71897&spn=0.007055,0.010986&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A&layer=c&cbll=40.746877,-73.718964&panoid=__vnxy4QexjJO4vtpGAa6A&cbp=12,270,,0,27.5

Howard, Should read. There are no remaining traces of the Parkway from Winchester Blvd rather than Commonwealth Ave. Al

Agree. The remains of the Motor Parkway ends on the ramp west of Winchester Boulevard and can not be seen until the parking lots of Long Island Jewish Hospital that border on the old Glen Oaks Country Club.

A few questions: 1)is there a difference between the “LIMP right- of -way” and the roadbed itself??..are you distinguishing between the two surfaces, if in fact, there are two???...or is the ROW merely the land on which the LIMP’s former surface ran??
2)if one travels west on 74th street where are the next concrete pillars able to be seen——a)in the parking lot of LIJ….in the woods on the south side of the GCP….on the hill behind the Lake Success Jewish Center????...any idea…Thanks for your help.
