Art Kleiner’s Exploration #2: The Motor Parkway East of Bagatelle Road in Dix Hills

One of the current bravest explorers of the Long Island Motor Parkway is Art Kleiner. There is not a forest, thorn patch or hill that will stop Art from finding remnants of the Motor Parkway. Here are his recent findings from trips near Bagatelle Road in the area known as Dix Hills, Melville, Half-Hollow Hills and Wheatley Hills depending on your map.

East Side of Bagatelle Road

Art Kleiner: "Wanted to let you know I did some "exploring" this past week on both sides of Bagatelle Road in Dix Hills, as a follow up to an initial trip back in November. The first area under investigation was east of Bagatelle, just where the LIMP crossed it across from today's Threepence Drive. Using aerialmaps.com it looks like the Parkway crossed Bagatelle there and if still around today, would have gone right through a house on the east side (the northern most one of the 4 houses there). It then went north through the woods and veered east where there is a school today and where it would cross the LIE. I found several posts along the way, although not the same type as I've ever found before. Look at the pics and let me know if you've ever seen this kind. Instead of the wire going through the post, there seemed to be a metal nail going through each. I wouldn't recommend hiking the east side of Bagatelle as it was pretty rough getting through the thorn bushes, downed trees, etc."

Despite Art's warning, I tried to repeat Art's great exploration. I took these photos before the woods and thorns got the best of me.

Thanks Artl! For more information and images of the Motor Parkway located east of Bagatelle Road, visit Art's Long Island Motor Parkway Site.
