A Tribute to the Mechanicians of the Vanderbilt Cup Races
Every race car that participated in the Vanderbilt Cup Races of 1904 to 1910 carried two men, the driver and a riding mechanic called a mechanician. VanderbiltCupRaces.com Exclusive: Krug’s Hotel in Mineola During the 1904 Vanderbilt Cup Race
Krug's East Williston Hotel was on the Vanderbilt Cup Courses for the 1904, 1905 and 1906 races. Oddly enough, a photo of the hotel on the northwest corner of the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Willis Avenue in Mineola during the 1904 race had never been published.... until now:

The D.W. Griffith Vanderbilt Cup Race Film That Almost Was
In 1910, D.W. Griffith, the pioneering American director, proposed to create an innovative racing film for American Biograph & Mutoscope . Using the Vanderbilt Cup Race as the backdrop, Griifth wanted the film narrative to highlight "triumph over adversity and competitve rivalry".
