Presentation: Lake Ronkonkoma and the Historic Long Island Motor Parkway, Holbrook, NY

In celebration of the first road built exclusively for the automobile, historian Howard Kroplick will present a review of the role of Lake Ronkonkoma and the Long Island Motor Parkway including the Petit Trianon Inn and the Ronkonkoma Lodge. Howard will also be discussing the Vanderbilt Cup Races held from 1904 to 1910 on Long Island and the planned, but never built, Ronkonkoma Motor Speedway.

Howard, the town historian of North Hempstead, has extensively researched the Motor Parkway and has written three books, The Vanderbilt Cup Races of Long Island, Long Island Motor Parkway (co-authored with Al Velocci), and North Hempstead.

Sponsored by the Lake Ronkonkoma Heritage Association, the presentation is open to the public and will be held in Community Room A at the Sachem Public Library, 150 Holbrook Road South, Holbrook, New York on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. A book signing will follow the presentation.

Come join us and learn about Long Island history in your own backyard. It promises to be an exciting evening for fans of Long Island automotive history.
