60th Easter Car Parade to be gala event
One of the "golden oldies" at last year's Parade. Plans are in motion for the 60th anniversary of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce's Easter Sunday Vintage Car Parade to be held April 5. The parade will step off on Franklin Avenue at Tenth Street with antique, classic, and special interest cars throughout the metropolitan area expected to participate in the lineup.
Spectators are welcome to preview the hundreds of magnificent vintage car specimens at the staging area in Parking Field 9E on Franklin Avenue between Ninth and Tenth Streets from10 a.m. to 1 p.m. when the parade steps off. The procession of cars will head south on Franklin and west on Seventh Street to Hilton Avenue where it will disperse.
The renowned Banjo Rascals will wander among the crowds with their tow-tappin' tunes at the car exhibit. During the parade, they will re-appear on Seventh Street along with the wandering Easter Bunnies bearing lollipops for the kids (courtesy of the Kiwanis Club of Garden City for some 40 years).
The Chamber once greatly acknowledges AAA New York for provision of dash plaques for car owners for more than 30 years; and Hengstenberg's and Feldis Florist for continually providing decorations for our Easter trees on Franklin Avenue. Thanks also go to the Police Department, Special Police, Public Works and Parks Departments. For information and car registration open to the first 200 applicants, please call Liz at the Chamber at (516) 746-7724, Ext. 101. For further details, visit www.GardenCityChamber.org.\
