The Magnificent 1910 Lozier

The second set of 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race photos from the Hayden Allen Collection focuses on the magnificent #2 Lozier driven by Ralph Mulford.

The two Lozier photos were taken by Hayden Allen's grandfather at the Westbury Turn at Old Country Road and Elliston Road,

The above image shows the Lozier just as it made the turn. Note the advertising banner for Monogram Oil.

The second image shows the Lozier approximately 25 feet past the turn. Note the spectators in the trees.

The #2 Lozier finished a very respectable 5th in the 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race. Mulford and the Lozier kept improving finishing second in the first Indy 500 Race held six months later. To this day, many people believe Mulford actually won the race.

Later in 1911, Mulford and the Lozier won a major race, capturing the Vanderbilt Cup Race in Savannah.

I would also be very interested in any new information or photographs of the Lozier and maybe I can shed some additional information myself?  I am a direct relative of Harry Lozier, and I have been looking to buy one of these fine machines for many years.  That’s how I found this link during one of my many web searches, and what’s this about a 1911 Indy 500 Movie?  That would be incredible!

Hi Todd:

I will send you my best photos of the Mulford’s Lozier in the Vanderbilt Cup Race; he finished 10th in the 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race and won the 1911 Vanderbilt Cup Race.

Enjoy,

Howard
