Clam Bake: Vanderbilt Descendant is Special Guest

The Vanderbilt ‘s fifth annual Clam Bake on Saturday, July 23, will have a special guest – Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin, an international pop star and the great-great granddaughter of William K. Vanderbilt II (1878-1944).
 
Costin not only will be a guest at her ancestral estate, but also may surprise fellow guests with one of her songs.
 
Over the past few years, her music landed on the Billboard Dance Charts for an accumulated 49 weeks. A singer and songwriter, she has performed around the world and shared the stage with such notable artists as Mya, Tweet, Vanessa Carlton and the late Joe Cocker.
 
Costin has been featured on some of the most popular television shows in Germany. In 2014, a film crew from the prominent German news channel NTV (part of the CNN network) chronicled her life in New York City for several weeks, and featured her in a six-part series for its show “Premium Lounge.”
 
Before the music and dinner begin at 6:00, the Vanderbilt’s Reichert Planetarium will offer a guests-only private showing at 5:00 p.m. of Laser Beatles with its newly installed SkyLase laser light-show entertainment system.
 
The Clam Bake will run until 10:00 in the Celebration Tent on the Great Lawn overlooking Northport Bay and Long Island Sound. The event is an important fund-raiser that benefits the Museum’s education programs.
 
Guests who bring their nine irons may take part in a chip-shot contest in honor of Willie Vanderbilt’s original estate golf course. The player who gets closest to the pin wins the pot.
 
The menu offers seafood-lovers’ favorites – from whole steamed lobsters to mussels and clam chowder, to barbecued chicken, burgers, hot dogs and corn-on-the-cob, plus wine, beer and soda. Glass Bottom Soul will play live music for listening and dancing.
 
Tickets are $100 per person (Members, $90) or $850 for a table of 10, and can be purchased online at vanderbiltmuseum.org, or call 631-854-5579, Monday through Friday, 10:00-4:00. This event is popular and tickets sell fast. Early registration is recommended.
