Spectators at the 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Race
One of my favorite photos in Vanderbilt Cup Races of Long Island is this scene of spectators at the 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Race.
In addition to the major grandstand at the start-finish line in Westbury, smaller unofficial stands were constructed by local resident around the 1906 course. Note how formal the people were dressed- every person was wearing a hat. The boy was rooting for his favorite drivers with a New York Commercial megaphone.
