Three Historic Markers Placed on the Pilot Section of the Motor Parkway Trail in East Meadow

Brian Schneider, Assistant Deputy Commissioner of the Nassau County Department of Public Works, has reported that three historic markers honoring the Long Island Motor Parkway and the Vanderbilt Cup Races have been placed in East Meadow.

The markers are part of the pilot section of the Motor Parkway Trail located on the south side of Salisbury Park Drive from Stewart Avenue to Carmen Avenue. Good job, Brian!

Our ace reporter Art Kleiner has documented the markers, "located along the Motor Parkway Trail at the intersections of Carmen Avenue/Salisbury Park Drive, Stewart Avenue/Salisbury Park Drive and midway between the two.  Very nice and sturdy markers!"

Enjoy,

LONG ISLAND MOTOR PARKWAY

On this site was the first parkway built exclusively for automobiles (1908-1938). This section of the parkway was also used for the historic Vanderbilt Cup Races from 1908 to 1910.
