The Motor Parkway Toll Collection Structures: #7 Jericho Turnpike Lodge in Mineola

Going west to east, the sixth Motor Parkway toll collection structure was the Jericho Turnpike Lodge located off Jericho Turnpike in Mineola.

Built in 1909, the Jericho Turnpike Lodge was actually just a ticket kiosk without living quarters for the toll-takers. Overall, a total of 20 toll collection structures were built for the Motor Parkway from 1908 to 1928.

Belcher-Hyde Map

As seen in this 1923 Belcher Hyde map, the kiosk was on the south-west side of the Jericho Turnpike Motor Parkway Bridge.

1909 Vanderbilt Cup Race

The opening of the kiosk on Jericho Turnpike was promoted on the Officials Stand/Press Box at the 1909 Vanderbilt Cup Race. That's the Alco Black Beast crossing the finish line. One gentleman apparently bet on the right car.

1909 Construction Photos

The kiosk can be seen in this construction of the Jericho Turnpike Motor Parkway Bridge.

The automobile in front of the kiosk was owned by the photographer.

The kiosk was in use from 1909 to 1922. It was taken down after the larger Mineola Lodge was opened in 1922.

The kiosk was located in this area in front of the red car.
