Do you remember the wildly popular Mustang Convertible from the 1960s? How about the gangster Model Ts from the 1920s? Does a Danbury Mint car bring back fond memories? This and much more can be experienced this summer at Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s mega exhibit, “America’s Love Affair with the Automobile,” opening July 15.
 
“Cars you’ve loved through the decades” is the theme for the exhibit, partially sponsored by Astoria Federal Savings and TD Bank. Featured are a 1928 Pierce Arrow, a 1956 T-Bird, 1924 Model T, 1965 Mustang Convertible and an MG TD Roadster, circa 1951. Also on hand will be Danbury Mint cars and vintage gas pumps, old signage and other memorabilia from Barn Find Antiquities. Marshall Buck, who is renowned for his model cars, will have those on display, as well as participate in “Hot Car Topics” – a forum where visitors can “meet the experts,” for Q & A. Forums take place from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. as follows:

•July 29: “Creating a Model, Think Small,” Marshall Buck
•August 5: “Long Island Motor Parkway, 1908-2012,” Bruce Adams
•August 12: “Progress in Engine Technology, Vintage Cars to 21st Century,” Mark Wehrman
•August 19: “Classic Cars,” Steve Linden.

The exhibit will also include an outdoor showcase of era cars courtesy of auto clubs who will be present with their representatives. They include the LI Jaguar, MG, Triumph & Mini Clubs on July 28; Thunderbird Club on August 18; and Model A Club on August 19. The festivities will also include a children’s “wooden car craft” for ages 3 and up on July 29 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., original Reboli paintings and giclees and the works of renowned automotive artist, George Ellis.
 
The exhibit will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at WMHO’s Educational & Cultural Center in Stony Brook Village. Cost is $4 for adults and $2 for children under 12. For further information, call 631-689-5888 or visit www.stonybrookvillage.com.
