Vanderbilt Cup Races in the News
The Gateway, October 30, 2010: Floral Park Historical Speaker
The Floral Park Historical Society will welcome Howard Kroplick, the author of "Vanderbilt Cup Races of Long Island", as the guest speaker on Monday, November 1st at 7:30 PM at Floral Park Centennial Hall, Tulip and Carnation Avenue.
Six Vanderbilt Cup Races were held on Long Island form 1904 to 1910. They were the first international car races held in the United States, drawing huge crowds from 20,000 to over 250,000 spectators. The races partially took place on the roadway known as Jericho Turnpike. The races became an interesting facet of early Floral Park history.
The public is invited. The author will be available to chat and provide book signings.<?P>
