Garden City News, July 30, 2010, "Black Beast" 1909 Alco Racer at Toll Lodge"

For folks who missed viewing the renowned 1909 Alco-6 “Black Beast” racer when it was exhibited at Village Hall before the Board of Trustees meeting on June 17, the Garden City Chamber is providing another opportunity! The “Black Beast” will be on display under the canopy at the historic Garden City Toll Lodge, home of the Chamber next Wednesday, August 4 between 10 a.m. and Noon.

This year’s Vanderbilt Demonstration runs will once again celebrate the repatriation of the Alco Racer that won the 1909 and 1910 Vanderbilt Cup races for the USA. ...The Vanderbilt Timed Demonstration Runs and Concours de Provenance take place at the southwest parking lot of Roosevelt Field near the Stewart Avenue entrance. Spectators are welcome at no charge. Directions: Take Meadowbrook Parkway Exit M2 West to the southwest parking lot from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
