Looking west from Merrick Rd.  towards toll house.

The photo is at Merrick Avenue looking West and on former lands of the LIMP.

Easiest one ever! The “then” pics can be confusing sometimes, but the “now” pics—-those I know!

NY Community Bank building on Merrick Ave in Westbury looking west up the former entrance ramp to the LIMP - former location of the Meadowbrook Lodge.

The LIMP is located just north (right) of this location. Eisenhower Park is directly behind this photographer.

I believe this is looking west from the west boundary of Eisenhower Park along Merrick Ave at the driveway of the federal offices (FAA?) and that this driveway is the old MP Right of Way.

This picture is the current site of the Meadowbrook lodge and bridge from the previous mystery foto.  Photographer is facing northwest, in the direction of the racecourse and grandstand at Roosevelt Field.  The smokestacks in the background are from the Covanta Hempstead plant on merchants concourse.  This section was used during the 1908 Cup race.  Very new at this so please forgive any mistakes.  At the very least, it has to be the same area as the previous mystery foto.

Merrick Avenue looking west just north of Stewart Avenue.
The driveway of the NY Community Bank
Formerly the site of the Meadow Brook Lodge of the LIMP.

We are looking west on Merrick Avenue on the border between Westbury and East Meadow. The driveway in the photo leads to the rear parking lot of the New York Community Bancorp building, 615 Merrick Avenue. It was built over the entrance to the Meadow Brook Lodge on the LIMP. A few feet to the north would have been the LIMP bridge over Merrick Avenue, which was part of the course for the 1908, 1909, and 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Races.

Identify the location of this 2003 Foto and orientation of the photographer?
Merrick Avenue, East Meadow looking west from Eisenhower Park.

Link the Foto to the Long Island Motor Parkway.
Driveway was the entrance ramp to the Motor Parkway via the Meadowbrook lodge.

Link the Foto to the Vanderbilt Cup Races

Actually, Merrick Avenue in Westbury.

This is a shot looking at the entrance/exit to what is now the NYCB building at 615 Merrick Avenue (west side) and shows the ROW of the Motor Parkway as it approached the Merrick Avenue crossing, heading into what is now Eisenhower Park. The camera is facing west.

Photo is looking westward from Merrick Ave.  The ramp leading to the parking structure behind the bank was the route of the LIMP as it crossed Merrick Ave. into the Salisbury Golf Club.

Off in the distance, a portion of the recycling plant can be seen, former site of Mitchel Gardens.  The LIMP skirted the edge of the property which was intended as civilian housing for those working at Mitchel Field.

Looking west it shows the approximate location of the entrance to the meadowbrook toll lodge on the LIMP.

I pass this spot twice a day! It’s now a driveway to the NYCB bank on Merrick ave in west bury across from Eisenhower park facing west! It was the on ramp to the Long Island Motor Parkway where there was a toll house at the entrance! Before that it was the turn that came down from Ellison ave that then cut over Merrick Ave into Eisenhower park through the golf course and out to Salisbury park drive! Some of the golf cart paths are actually part of the old race course! How cool is that?

This is a driveway leading into a parking lot behind the New York Community Bank building on Merrick Avenue.

Looking West from Merrick Ave at was once the exact location of the entrance for the Meadowbrook Lodge.

The Meadow Brook Lodge was the beginning of the parkway section for the 1908, 1909 and 1909 Vanderbilt Cup Races courses.

This is the former entrance ramp to the Motor Pkwy and to the Meadowbrook lodge. We’re looking West from Merrick Ave in East Garden City/Westbury across the street from Eisenhower Park. The lodge was up the hill and just to the right behind the building against the low hedge in the back. But before reaching the lodge the ramp ascended up the hill, curved to the left, then quickly curved back around towards the lodge. Howard, sending a photo .

This ramp also provided access for spectators viewing the 1908 - 1910 races. The parkway bridge just to the right of the photo carried the Motor Pkwy through the center of the building.

When Brian McCarthy and I tried to gain access last year, we were greeted with a closed gate and overhead camera. I think the gate remains open during business hours

Oog - “Meadow Brook”!  Here’s a Street View shot more closely approximating the Chaplinesque lodge entrance view, allowing for that damn truck obstructing the angle: <http://sbiii.com/limpnass/615merrk.jpg>.  The LIMP ramp is on the far side of the fences.  While we’re at it, stretching my memory, isn’t that greenish-gray Butler building at the left Howard’s old tennis court venture (or next door to it)?  Sam, III
