Highlights From the Westhampton Historical Society Vanderbilt Cup Races Presentation

Every seat was taken at last Sunday's presentation "The Incredible Vanderbilt Cup Races: The Impact on Long Island"  sponsored by the Westhampton Historical Society.

A great time was had by all... including the presentor! Wonderful photos courtesy of by Roz Kroplick.

Over 65 people discovered the impact of the Vanderbilt Cup Races and the Motor Parkway on Long Island.

The audience included two former ship building clients of my father's accounting firm.  A real thrill to meet them!

The 1905 Vanderbilt Cup Race flags from the Helck Family Collection were a big hit.

An official flagman at the East Norwich corner during the 1905 race.

Jeff Levin brought his rare pin and photo from the 1909 Vanderbilt Cup Race.

A pin and pennant vender at the Vanderbilt Cup Race.

Jeff's photo shows the 1909 Alco Black Beast winning the race.

A total of $500 was raised for Child Abuse Prevention Services.

That 1909 pin is pretty cool. Probably not many of those things lying around.

Just curious…..the picture w the pin vendor: any idea where that is?

Doreen:

Great Job!

Hi Howard,

Thank you so much for your wonderful lecture on Sunday!!  Rave reviews from all!

I really enjoyed working with you and hope our paths cross again soon.  Keep up the good work on behalf of abused children… they need all the advocacy and money that we can muster.

Again, thanks so much.  And thanks to Rosalind for the pictures and technical back up! It helped a great deal.

Sincerely,
Doreen
