Highlights from the First Annual Motor Parkway Parade
The First Annual Motor Parkway Parade was successfully held last Sunday. Celebrating the completion of the Lake Ronkonkoma section of the Motor Parkway, the event was organized by the Lake Ronkonkoma Heritage Association and had been previously rained out on August 7, 2011. Some highlights:
The 15.7 mile parade route included the last 12.7 miles of the Long Island Motor Parkway from Deer Park Avenue to Lake Ronkonkoma and 3.0 miles on County Road 16.
Staging the cars prior to the parade.
The Black Beast had the honor of leading the parade.
Jon Cooper, Legislator for the 18th District, was the Black Beast mechanician for the parade. Here, Jon (left) poses with Ellyn Okvist, event organizer, and Howard Kroplick.
The parade on the Motor Parkway was escorted by the Suffolk County police. Great job!
The Black Beast at the easterm terminus of the Long Island Motor Parkway at Rosevale Avenue in Lake Ronkonkoma. The Black Beast ran all 15.7 miles without a single problem!
Despite temperatures below 40 degrees, over 25 vintage cars participated in the parade.
Some "very cool" Black Beast drivers and mechanicians.
Hats off to Ellyn Okvist, the Lake Ronkonkoma Heritage Association, the Suffolk County Police Department and the Ronkonkoma Fire Department for the first of many Motor Parkway parades!
