Central Park Historical Society Marker: Central Avenue/LIRR Motor Parkway Bridge

The Central Park Historical Society has placed two markers in Bethpage honoring the Long Island Motor Parkway. The first marker was placed on the north side of Central Avenue at the site of the longest Motor Parkway bridge.

Enjoy,

Howard Kroplick

Looking west, the bridge under construction in 1908.

The completed bridge spanned both Central Avenue and the Long Island Railroad tracks.

A view looking south-west.

A view looking north-east..

Looking north, the bridge can be seen in the background of this Starlight Fuel Company coal silo at Lexington Avenue and Schneider Lane. Submitted by Bob and Coleen Albertson.
