The Family of Vanderbilt Cup Racer Herb Lytle Has a Reunion at the 2019 Indy 500

Herb Lytle was one of the great race driver of the early 1900s, participating in more races associated with the Vanderbilt Cup Races (6) than any other driver and the first Indy 500 Race (1911).  Assisted by connections on VanderbiltCupRaces.com, several generations of Lytles celebrated Herb with a family reunion at this year's Indy 500.

Scott and Dave Lytle have forwarded images from the reunion and exclusive photos form Herb Lytle's scrapbook.

Enjoy,

Might one inquire as to the identity of the white-haired gentleman?  Clearly he is NOT Herb (1874-1932).  His son (in his ‘90s)?  Sam, III

Watching the 1911 Indy film for the umpteenth time (of the 45K), it hit me how wildly exciting it must be to see YOUR OWN car in action!  Sam, III

Bridgette:

Howard,

So excited to see this email edition. Bob, my neighbor who will be 98 in a few days and is Herb Lytle’s son. (the gentleman in the top gun hat and other picture in the black shirt) He was able to go back to meet his family for the first time; take a little side trip with his grandson to visit where he lived as a child; go to the Indy 500 race; and have this wonderful experience at this stage of his life, because of our original contact with you, and your help and contact in getting the family back in touch through Dave.

Thank you for your part in this!

Affectionately, Brigitte

Simply remarkable family reunion, all in the course of 100+ years! A treasured event that will no doubt last for future generations. Congrats to Howard and to the Lytle team.

…and just to let you know, that my dear neighbor and friend Bob Lytle will be celebrating his 102 birthday in a few months. He is still driving after renewing his license at 100 years old…must be in the genes.

What a remarkable centurion!!!

Love you Bob❤️
