Happy 70th Birthday Howard!

Identify the location and orientation of the photographer.
Queens Village, photographer was in a plane looking northeast.

Identify the major roads and the Motor Parkway structure(s).  Motor Parkway and Union Turnpike, more a dirt road before its widening.  The Creedmoor Pedestrian Bridge over the Motor Parkway (white area north of the buildings).

What year was this aerial taken? Provide a rationale.  1926 - prior to widening of Union Turnpike, new construction going on at Creedmoor (and as per Brooklyn Daily Eagle picture and caption below).

What was the name of the building complex when this photo was taken?
Creedmoor State Hospital for the Care of the Insane.

Its the Kings Park Psychiatric Center. The railroad trestle for the coal boiler gives it away. Orientation is looking Northeast.

Second thought- It could also be Edgewood in Central Islip (Brentwood South); It also had a coal trestle.

-Identify the location and orientation of the photographer.

Looking North-NorthEast down at Creedmore in Queens.

-Identify the major roads and the Motor Parkway structure(s).

The LI Motor Parkway section just after Winchester Blvd is in the upper left hand portion. The Creedmore Bridge can clearly be seen.

-What year was this aerial taken? Provide a rationale.

Creedmore’s building 70 and 71 appear to be towards the beginning of their construction. They opened in 1929, so my guess would be 1927 being that they were in the beginning phases.

-What was the name of the building complex when this photo was taken?

I want to say the Farm Colony of Brooklyn State Hospital, but I would have thought it was just Creedmore at this time.

Happy belated Birthday Howard!

1) Creedmoor State Hospital, Southwest facing Northeast.
2) Top left is the Creedmoor underpass. Winchester Blvd is to the left.
3) Around 1923-1924. See photos. 1924 is when the powerplant and rail spur were completed, along with the upgrades to patients’ buildings.
4) Farm Colony of Brooklyn State Hospital

I’ll take a shot on this rainy Mother’s Day morning… Pilgrim State Hospital. A Happy Day to all the Moms, despite the rain!

I can only guess Farmingdale state college. The 2nd photo seems to be limp bridge over what is now Melville road.Building in the upper right is probably a power plant, generator?More likely perhaps a heating plant? Could it be a steam boiler. If I’m correct, the view would be South. The sand pits, where the LIMP bridge is located, is a couple of miles north,on the other side of Spagnoli Rd.My guess is LIMP turned north towards the sand pits.It looks like LIMP was removed for college construction. OR… I’m wrong.

Kinda has to be the Pilgrim State Hospital (today’s Pilgrim Psychiatric Center) campus prior to the LIE or the Sagtikos, looking (LI) east, with the LIMP at upper left curving to run under Wicks Avenue.  College Road at right and Washington Avenue at the far right.  Wild guesses - that blur under the bridge might be a toll entrance and the year late 1930’s because Pilgrim is well developed but there is no LIE or SSP.  [No fun cheating.]  Sam, III

We’re looking northeast over the Creedmoor (now Glen Oaks) section of Queens. Other than the LIMP in the upper left, there is Commomwealth Blvd. running north-south to the right of the complex. The Creedmoor highway bridge is also visible over the LIMP. I’m going to guess the date to be around 1930 since the Brooklyn State Hospital at Creedmoor complex is well established yet there is no evidence of the Union Turnpike extension having even been started.

Queens Village looking north over Creedmoor Hospital.

Winchester Blvd, upper left corner and Winchester BLVD bridge
Motor parkway seen in upper part as well.
Year was likely 1920s, early 1930s, before build up of Union Tpke.

Complex opened in 1912 as Farm Colony of Brooklyn State Hospital.

The photo is facing to the northeast in the Queens Village/Glen Oaks area.
The location is the new Creedmoor Psychiatric Center.  The center fully opened in 1927.
It appears that you can see Commonwealth Blvd. and possibly Union turnpike to the left.  You can see the power plant and the LIRR Creedmoor coal spur which comes up from the bottom of the photo from a junction with the old Steward/ Central branch.
The LIMP can be clearly seen in the upper left of the photo with the Creedmoor bridge.
The year of the photo is between 1926 to 1930.

Happy Birthday, indeed - you young punk!  :ยท)

Whoo, was I ever off on this one!  That doesn’t bother me; I often am, but I marvel at the amazing similarities of the the two sites here and on some of my other mis-IDs.
